Da ‘trascinare’ a ‘rubare’ - Il riciclo semantico nello svedese in chiave diacronica: il caso di baxa

Abstract

ABSTRACT: L’avvento della multiculturalità in Svezia ha prodotto evidenti mutamenti linguistici, soprattutto grazie all’influenza di lingue straniere sul lessico dello svedese. Nei socioletti degli immigrati, qui definiti stili multilingue si nota non solo l’apporto di un lessico esogeno, bensì anche lo slittamento semantico di parole risalenti allo svedese antico, e ormai solo raramente facenti parte dell’uso corrente. In questo articolo ci si concentrerà sul caso del verbo baxa (spostare, trascinare), un arcaismo che negli stili multilingui si associa alla sfera semantica della malavita, acquisendo il significato di ‘fare furti con scasso’ o ‘trascinare merce rubata’ (Doggelito-Kotsinas 2004). L’obiettivo dello studio è di ricostruire l’uso del verbo a partire dallo svedese protomoderno (äldre nysvenska), parlato dalla fine dell’epoca medioevale, fino allo svedese contemporaneo (nusvenska), per analizzare in che modo baxa abbia subito, almeno relativamente all’uso in specifici contesti, lo spostamento semantico di cui sopra. Attraverso il ricorso a testi letterari e non, risalenti a diverse epoche, e attraverso la consultazione del maggiore corpus della lingua svedese, Korp della Språkbanken (Banca della Lingua) si ricostruirà la genealogia di un verbo che, proprio quando ormai sembrava caduto in disuso, vive un processo di ‘riciclaggio semantico’.

ABSTRACT: The development of multiculturalism in Sweden has resulted in evident linguistic changes, mainly due to the influence of foreign languages on the Swedish vocabulary. In the sociolects of immigrants, referred to here as multilingual styles, one not only notices the contribution of exogenous vocabulary, but also the semantic shift of words dating back to Old Swedish, and now only rarely part of current usage in standard Swedish. In this article, focus will be on the case of the verb baxa (to move, to drag), an archaism that in multilingual styles is associated with the semantic sphere of the underworld, acquiring the meaning of burgling or dragging stolen goods (Doggelito-Kotsinas 2004). The aim of the study is to reconstruct the use of the verb from Early Modern Swedish (äldre nysvenska), spoken at the end of medieval times, to contemporary Swedish (nusvenska), in order to analyse how baxa has undergone, at least with regard to its use in specific contexts, the aforementioned semantic shift. Through the use of literary and non-literary texts dating back to different periods, and by consulting the largest corpus of the Swedish language, Korp powered by Språkbanken (Language Bank), we will reconstruct the genealogy of a verb that, just when it seemed to have fallen into disuse, now undergoes a process of ‘semantic recycling’.
