Grimbald e gli altri: i collaboratori di re Alfredo alla corte di Winchester

Abstract

ABSTRACT: L’importanza di quanto realizzato da Alfredo e dalla sua cerchia di collaboratori sul finire del IX secolo si riflette nel considerevole numero di contributi sul tema pubblicati non solo in tempi recenti e dedicati principalmente alla questione dell’authorship. In queste pagine si intende riconsiderare il ruolo effettivamente svolto dai membri dell’entourage alfrediano, Grimbald di San Bertin e non solo, e come essi possano aver influito sulle condizioni materiali, culturali e linguistiche alla base delle procedure di traduzione, sull’approccio alle fonti e sulla consistenza del corpus di testi che furono resi in inglese antico.

ABSTRACT: The importance of the work carried out by Alfred and his circle towards the end of the ninth century may be appreciated through the considerable number of essays published not only in recent times and specifically devoted to the question of authorship. In these pages we intend to reconsider the role actually played by the members of the Alfredian entourage, Grimbald of St. Bertin and his colleagues, and how they may have influenced the material, cultural and linguistic conditions underlying translation procedures, the approach to sources and the consistency of the corpus of texts to be rendered into Old English.
